When introduced initially SB 213 would have created a presumption of compensability for hospital workers with infectious diseases including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus skin infections, tuberculosis and meningitis; cancer; musculoskeletal injuries; post-traumatic stress disorder; and respiratory diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma.

The recent amendment expands the definition  of respiratory diseases to include COVID -19 specifically.
