In 2017 there was a proposal for single-payer health care (SB562), it is now being proposed again. AB 1400 was introduced on February 19th by Assemblyman Kalra to create a comprehensive single-payer plan for all state residents. As part of AB 1400, there would be a nine-member executive board who would be responsible for creating and implementing the program. Part of their tasks would be to develop a proposal for covering health care and services currently provided under workers' compensation and how the funding for that would continue.
Among other things, AB 1400 would require the board to develop a proposal for “coverage of health care items and services currently covered under the workers’ compensation system, including whether and how to continue funding for those (items) and services under that system and how to incorporate experience rating.”
